Lent Groups *3

There are three options for a Lent Course.  I hope you find one which you can consider as we move into this new church season.

Option 1

St Mary’s & St Catharine’s Lent Course will run on Wednesdays following the morning service at alternate churches – from 11.15-12.15. On the 1st, 15th and 29th March at St Mary’s and 8th and 22nd at St Catharine’s. We will be using the Diocesan Lent Course – Faith is a Verb.  A link to the material is found here: https://edinburgh.anglican.org/2023/02/lent-course-2023-faith-is-a-verb/

Option 2

Christ Church’s Lent group might be at a time that suits you better – these will be on Tuesdays from 8-9pm in their hall beginning on 28th February and will be lead by Sarah. They will be looking at Stanley Spenser’s paintings of Christ in the Wilderness.  For more info, please e-mail revsarahshaw@gmail.com.

Option 3

As below, this is offered online and you can join folk from across the Province:

Teach Us to Pray: A Close Reading of the Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer, says the African theologian Tertullian (155–220), is the ‘epitome of the Gospel’. Pious Christians recite the Lord’s Prayer daily, if not thrice daily. It was given to us by the Lord Jesus himself at the direct request of his disciples (Matthew 6.9–13 and Luke 11.2–4). This Series reads the Lord’s Prayer closely and deliberately to unpack the ways in which it glorifies God and petitions for humanity’s spiritual and physical needs.

The Series will be offered on the Mondays of Lent 2023 at 7pm (Edinburgh time) in six 30-minute webinars, each of which will be posted on YouTube and remain viewable anytime thereafter. The Series is meant to be a resource for Christians to use creatively during the Season of Lent, for example as a refresher course for individuals or a conversation starter for church groups, with discussion questions at the end of each webinar.

Presenter: Revd Dr Michael Hull, Director of Studies at the Scottish Episcopal Institute in Edinburgh.
